HOW TO GET A COPY OF C.I.G.A.

Cavity Insurance Guarantee Agency Certificate

When Cavity Wall Insulation was fitted, it was normal practice for your contractor to register your installation with CIGA. CIGA then should have produced a guarantee certificate and sent this to you.

Now, not all installations are registered with CIGA for various reasons. This can affect the claim with the contractor disregarding this, and could be a sign of the quality of work carried out. It is best to check as soon as possible and obtain a copy of your guarantee, whether you have faults or not.

 

OBTAINING A COPY OF YOUR GUARANTEE CERTIFICATE

 

You can obtain a copy of your CIGA 25 year Guarantee Certificate by phoning CIGA so you can progress your claim.

You are requesting this copy as you do not have it.  You can say you want it for your own records as you are possibly thinking about placing your house on the market in the near future. However, you do not have to disclose the reason for your request if you do not wish to do so. There is no reason why you should not be provided with a copy on request. They will inform you that a duplicate copy will cost you £25.

If the installation was done prior to your purchase of the house, when you made the purchase, you purchased all rights to the guarantee and any claims made against it. You may need to give CIGA your details to update their records.

As you do not have a CIGA Certificate in your possession, it is very important that our Solicitors get the concrete evidence that your property has undergone a Cavity Wall Insulation installation within the last 15 years. You might find that the lines are engaged, please understand that they are very busy. They will ask you for your Postcode and the house number after they have confirmed that you are the homeowner. They might ask you to email to them a copy of a utility bill, or similar, to prove you are the homeowner.

They will then pass you through to an operator to take payment card details from YOUR CREDIT/DEBIT card. The card must be registered to your home address . If it is not your card then they will request to speak to the card holder.

Once the payment has been completed and you have made a note of the payment reference number ( please record ) then request to have a copy sent to you or your partner’s email address if at all possible.
